Call to Governments… Call to Scotland
BY Global Ageing Network
The Global Ageing Network (GAN) released its Call to Governments on the need to reform long-term care last month. It was a clear call for needed attention to ageing services and the necessary changes for meeting the needs of global ageing. Through GAN, many countries are echoing the call to their policy leaders. We know–individually and collectively–what is needed because we live it every day in the work that Network members do. The biennial conference in Scotland in September 2023 will highlight many of these issues, share solutions and ideas about overcoming barriers, and inspire action.
Register for the conference and join the global movement. In both the United Kingdom and the United States, there is a call for a Commissioner on Ageing Policy at the highest levels of government. In Ireland, there is a call for a Statutory Home Support Scheme to grant home care as a legal right. In Australia, a human rights approach to aged care has been adopted. And, in Canada, there is a movement towards greater investment in long-term care.
We may have our moment to truly spotlight global ageing during the World Health Organization’s Decade for Healthy Ageing, and it will take all of us working together!
