LeadingAge Releases The Immigration Imperative White Paper and Katie Smith Sloan Comments

Earlier this month, Global Ageing Network Affiliate LeadingAge released a new white paper, The Immigration Imperative, which offers a timely and relevant overview of current challenges created by America’s inefficient and outdated approach to legal immigration followed by practical recommendations on policy changes that could help to increase the pipeline of foreign-born long-term care workers in the U.S.—and create a foundation for them to thrive in our member communities. The paper urges U.S. policymakers to take bold action to help providers welcome more foreign-born caregivers to their organizations.
Global Ageing Networking (GAN) Executive Director and LeadingAge President and CEO, Katie Smith Sloan discusses the importance of immigration reform and explains why this issue is critical to the GAN. She urges LeadingAge members to learn from the valuable knowledge held by GAN members across the world. The demand for foreign-born workers to support the care of older people is not just a problem in the U.S., but it is shared by care providers globally.
