United Nations International Day of Older Persons (UNIDOP) is celebrated each year on October 1. This international day recognizes the opportunities and challenges of population ageing and promotes the development of a society for all ages.
The theme for the 34th annual celebration is “Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide” and will emphasize the importance of protecting the human rights of both caregivers and care recipients, promote person-centered approaches to care, and for the right to make decisions about their care and quality of life. If you’re interested in joining the celebration, learn more about the October 7 event at the UN Headquarters in New York City. Those without valid UN credentials must register by Friday, September 27.
