The Global Ageing Network is excited to see that the United Nations (UN) member states adopted a significant resolution that will pave the way for a UN process to establish an international, legally binding instrument—a convention—to safeguard the human rights of older people.  

Global Ageing Network members have actively participated at the United Nations Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA), along with other civil society and human rights institutions, to request that the Human Rights Council establish an intergovernmental working group to draft a comprehensive, internationally legally binding instrument on the human rights of older persons without further delay.

In its recent submission to the United Nations at the 14th Session OEWGA, the Global Ageing Network strongly supported the creation of a convention to address the gaps in the international human rights system.
