LaMP Helps Address Workforce Scarcity
BY GlobalAgeing
Labor mobility has the potential to address worker scarcity in the aged care sector. Health care providers around the world have been actively looking into recruiting from abroad, but a lack of available and efficient labor mobility pathways prevents the sector from truly tackling the issue.
Global Ageing Network members enjoyed a lively webinar last fall with leadership from Labor Mobility Partnerships (LaMP) that explored challenges and solutions to help meet the need for a sufficient and qualified workforce, which included leaning into international partnerships and collaboration.
As policymakers consider opening new and improving existing programs for international recruitment, it is crucial to better understand the experience of foreign-born workers currently employed in the aged care sector to propose actual “win-win-win” policies benefiting employers, workers—and ultimately the people receiving the services and the sector overall.
