A Global Partnership to Improve Brain Health
According to the World Health Organization, more than 55 million people worldwide have dementia and nearly two-thirds of them live in low- and middle-income countries.
Social Impact Partners | Global Brain Health Initiative (SIP) is a nonprofit that is committed to changing these statistics by improving brain health and longevity worldwide. The organization fosters collaboration across industries—including business, healthcare, science, policy, and education—and unites changemakers to advance innovative solutions that support cognitive resilience at every stage of life.
Last month, SIP hosted the Global Brain Health and Longevity Strategy Meeting in Washington, DC, where it unveiled a new white paper, “The Vibrant Mind: A Guide to Neuroprotective Nutrition,” in partnership with Sodexo and Dr. Gene Bowman, a leading nutritional scientist from the McCance Center for Brain Health at Massachusetts General Hospital. Global Ageing Network Executive Director, Katie Smith Sloan, spoke at the event.
Jill T. Ricker, CDP, National Director of SAIDO and Memory Care, highlighted: “The powerful gathering of prominent thought leaders at the Social Impact Partners Global Brain Health and Longevity meeting in Washington, D.C., was rich with insight, collaboration, and hope for building brain resilience. The focus on the nutritional/dietary needs and approaches is foundational and finally getting the attention it deserves to move brain health into clearer focus. Covenant Living Communities and Services is committed to shifting the paradigm on how we stay sharp at any age and any stage of cognition. Nutrition is key.”
This report synthesizes meta-analyses from over 250 academic studies, exploring various dietary approaches to brain health and illuminating the crucial link between nutrition and cognitive function. With the rise in age-related cognitive decline, senior living communities are uniquely positioned to lead the charge in implementing brain health strategies. The white paper serves as a resource for senior living communities, leaders, and caregivers, offering practical dietary recommendations for meal planning and wellness programs.
