Age With Rights – Global Rally 2023: Guide for Campaign Action Organisers
What is the Global Rally?
The Global Rally runs from February 27 to March 5, 2023, and is a key part of the Age with Rights campaign. It is an opportunity for people around the world to unite and call on governments to take action in support of stronger protection and promotion of older people’s human rights.
The Global Rally will take place several weeks ahead of the next annual Working Group meeting of governments and other stakeholders on older people’s human rights [1] at the United Nations (UN) in New York, April 3-6. A cross-regional core group led by Argentina will present a draft decision to governments at this meeting on further intersessional work for laying the foundations of a new UN convention.
Our goal is to urge governments to participate actively in the UN Working Group meeting in April [2] and support a new UN convention for the rights of older people.
The Rally will coincide with the first week of the UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva [3] where governments will be discussing a new report about the inadequacies in the global protection of older people’s rights. Through the Rally, we can also help draw attention and raise the profile of older people’s rights in those discussions.
