On this day, we must join together to celebrate the gift of aging
The Global Ageing Network joins other non-governmental organizations and aged care stakeholders to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons on October 1!
“Global ageing is real—this is not up for debate. We owe it to older persons today and in future years to recognize and respect their right to live with dignity, with access to quality services and supports, and to live with purpose and contribute to their communities. On this day, we must join together to celebrate the gift of aging,” said Katie Smith Sloan, executive director of the Global Ageing Network.
The 2023 theme, “Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons: Across Generations” aims to “put a spotlight on the specificity of older persons around the world, for the enjoyment of their rights and in addressing violations, and how the strengthening of solidarity through equity and reciprocity between generations offers sustainable solutions to deliver on the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The United Nations will host the 33rd International Day of Older Persons event at the UN headquarters in New York on October 2. Global representative experts will gather to discuss a range of human rights of older persons and facilitate intergenerational solutions. Find more information here.
