Join the Global Ageing Network on 16 December 2024 at 9 p.m. US ET (time zone converter) for a webinar titled Empowering Older Persons.
This event will draw on the work of the United Nations Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA), which has been working on creating a Convention for the Rights of Older Persons, and will showcase successful initiatives that promote the inclusion and empowerment of older adults. Further, panelists will discuss how to protect and promote the human rights of older people.

About the Panelists
Marizen Santos, Chief of the International Obligations Monitoring Division, Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines
Marizen Santos is the chief of the International Obligations Monitoring Division under the Policy Linkages Office of the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHRP). She has over 20 years of experience working for human rights promotion and protection in the Philippines, in Asia, and internationally, focusing on international human rights mechanisms and collaboration with human rights defenders, civil society, the diplomatic community, national human rights institutions, and the UN system. Prior to joining the CHRP, Santos worked with migrants’ rights networks in South Asia and the Middle East through the Migrant Forum in Asia, human rights documentation with HURIDOCS, humanitarian actors through the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE), and the self-advocacy and disability rights movement in the United States through the Self-Advocacy Association of New York State.
Marcus Riley, Executive Chairman, BallyCara
Marcus Riley is a member of the Steering Committee for the Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People (GAROP) and immediate past chair of the Global Ageing Network. Marcus was recently appointed as the focal point for the Stakeholder Group on Ageing for the Asia-Pacific region. He is also the director of AMS, an international development charity.
Marcus is executive chairman of BallyCara, a charitable organisation and public benevolent institution which provides accommodation, health, and care services for older people as well as a range of support and advisory functions to service-based organisations.
