The world is experiencing an unprecedented demographic shift with rapidly ageing populations. This presents both immense opportunities and significant obstacles to overcome. A key challenge is ensuring a healthy, productive, and dignified life for older adults while addressing the potential impact on the workforce. As a global community, we are uniquely placed to identify solutions which, while mindful of the needs of our wonderful care workers, get straight to the heart of what it is that makes a good life for an older person.
This year we have set ourselves some clear targets to grow our reach and strengthen our impact. You can help us on that mission! Please do encourage those who share your passion for working together across the globe to join the network and help us ensure that we can speak as one when raising the voice and needs of ageing populations around the world.
Global Ageing Network members will come together to share our experiences and learn from one another at the 2025 Global Ageing Conference & LeadingAge Annual Meeting in November. We believe that embracing an ageing world requires a multi-faceted approach and there are some exciting opportunities ahead that are just in reach, but we must consider them carefully as a community. We are particularly pleased to be strengthening our connections with academic partners, and the conference in Boston will bring together leading academics from across the globe who will share their research. The work they do has the potential to transform both the policies on long-term care and the delivery of that care, and the Global Ageing Network is providing a unique in-person platform for sharing the learning.
We must harness the power of technology, innovation and data, particularly in new areas like artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance the lives of older adults and support their continued contributions to society. AI and other advancements should be leveraged to augment human capabilities, improve access to health care, social care, and support, and ultimately enhance the longevity and quality of life for older adults.
The Global Ageing Network will continue to serve as a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation. We will bring together those with lived experience, policymakers, providers, researchers, businesses, and civil society organizations to develop and implement solutions that address the unique needs of an ageing world. By working together, we can create a future where ageing is a positive experience, characterized by health, well-being, and active participation in society. I look forward to collaborating with you all to set an ambitious course for what we can achieve together and build the solid foundations on which that vision for the future of ageing can be secured.
