About the Moderator
Rich Schutt
Rich has been with the organization over 35 years. He has the responsibility for overseeing operations, finance, marketing, development, and administrative divisions of Providence Life Services. Mr. Schutt was a past Board of Directors Chair of the national association, LeadingAge, formerly known as AAHSA. He is President of Providence Management, which owns a Technology Company and Development Company. In addition, Mr. Schutt has a Master’s in Health Administration from Governors State University where he has taught courses in Nursing Home Administration and Concepts of Long-Term Care.
About the Panelists
Maria Mannerholm
Maria is CEO of Micasa AB. This company is owned by the City of Stockholm and provides various forms of housing for the elderly. These properties, which include assisted living accommodation, nursing homes, homes for seniors and sheltered housing, are owned and maintained by Micasa AB. During her 40-year career working for the City of Stockholm, Maria has held several positions including Director of a City District Office with a staff of 2500. The district offices provide a wide range of municipal services, such as childcare, social services and care of the elderly.
Alex Spanko
Alex Spanko is the director of communications for The Green House Project, a non-profit dedicated to eliminating the traditional nursing facility in favor of elder-directed alternatives that don’t just feel like home – but are home. Alex is an experienced writer and editor who helped launch Skilled Nursing News, a leading industry trade publication based in Chicago, in 2017. At SNN, he developed a deep and broad knowledge of nursing home finance, reimbursement, and regulation. Alex’s work has also appeared in the Boston Globe and the Boston Business Journal.
