New Initiative, New Resources: Opening Doors to Aging Services
Opening Doors to Aging Services, a new LeadingAge initiative, provides communications strategies and research-tested messages to tell our story! This long-term, national-local initiative seeks to raise awareness and increase understanding of the aging services sector. It is founded on robust research from which complete strategic communications guidance and messaging were crafted. The aging services sector has never been more important to the lives of older adults—and with more eyes on the field, we have a significant opportunity to proactively define the sector. Earlier this year, LeadingAge launched our long-term Opening Doors to Aging Services initiative to help older adults and their families better understand how our field delivers the care and support that many of us will need to lead a fulfilling life as we grow older.
Opening Doors to Aging Services offers LeadingAge members and the entire field first-of-its-kind, research-based communications strategies and resources to inform and align efforts across the sector. OpeningDoors.org is a one-stop shop where members and other aging service professionals can access the insights, guidance, and resources developed under our initiative. Open-source research and strategies are available to all, and LeadingAge members will find exclusive members-only resources in spring 2022.
During the October LeadingAge Annual Meeting + EXPO, Board Chair Carol Silver Elliott inspired us all to reset the storyline. “For 20 months we have let someone else write the narrative. Now is the time to stand tall. Now is the time to tell our story.” Watch her powerful speech.
Coming soon: online workshops to explain and explore the possibilities of the initiative. Meanwhile, we invite you to visit the website and use Opening Doors to Aging Services as you showcase your valuable work. Together, we can reset the narrative and tell the authentic story of aging services!
