Innovation in Global Ageing
The Global Ageing Nework has identified the following areas of interest to provide easy access to innovative practices and to facilitate an exchange of knowledge and collaboration across countries.
Dementia
With no therapies currently available to cure or effectively alter the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, there are many innovative approaches focused on person-centered care, including the person’s psychological and spiritual well-being.
Intergenerational Approach
The intergenerational approach integrates young and older people together in various environments to contribute to a community’s development. The intergenerational approach is not a new one, but many providers are incorporating this approach in innovative ways, whether it consists of intergenerational networks, development, or a new program.
Service Delivery Models
There are vastly different approaches to ways of organizing and delivering services. Often influences by geography or economics and usually driven by public policy, we can learn a lot about care coordination, points of service, and greater connectivity between providers and users.
Technology
Emerging technologies will enable both older adults and their caregivers to address a comprehensive range of medical, health, social, and functional needs. Technologies that empower seniors to better manage their health are needed so that older adults can stay connected to their communities and get access to the services they need to remain independent in their homes and other community-based settings. Integration of innovative technologies will enhance the well-being and lifelong engagement of older populations.
Wellness
Older adults have a great deal to offer their communities. There is increased evidence of the importance of wellness as a preventative measure to leading to improved health and wellbeing. Approaches to wellness address its many dimensions: physical, nutrition, emotional, social, creativity, and spiritual.
