Funding Initiatives Seek Innovative Approaches to Addressing Aged Care Needs

LeadingAge, the U.S chapter of IAHSA, and Comic Relief, a member of NCF in the UK, have established independent but related efforts to identify and support innovation in aged care organizations. Both organizations have grant programs based on an application process whose aim is to expand and share innovation initiated by not-for-profit organizations.

Comic Relief has for many years funded work that supports some of the most marginalized and vulnerable people in the UK. The Care Home Challenge Fund was created to provide an opportunity for not-for-profit care homes and the wider voluntary sector to develop and try out innovative ideas. Proposals that put people and relationships at the heart of the care that is being delivered and that aim to create a vibrant caring community where residents, staff and visitors feel valued were particularly sought.

The LeadingAge Innovations Fund has sought programs that integrate housing and community services, including mental health services, as well as innovation in dementia care. The goal of both programs is to foster innovation and share the results widely to encourage adoption.
