Implemented in 2009, IAHSA features an International Design for Ageing Programme. The programme has become a featured event and showcase during our international conferences. The Global Ageing Network is a unique forum for designers and aged care providers worldwide to share innovations in senior living design and programming.

Architecture and design firms are invited to submit a working or existing project that represents their contribution to the field of senior living. A multinational, multidisciplinary team analyzes submissions and findings are presented at IAHSA’s biennial conference.

2015 Design for Ageing Showcase

In partnership with Australian-based design firm, ThomsonAdsett, the Global Ageing Network (formerly IAHSA) hosted its 4th international exhibit of the state-of-the-art designs and trends in senior living design. The theme of the 2015 design showcase is “Aged Care of the Future”. Featured designs reflect both completed work and emerging projects representing a room, a wing or an entire campus. Submitted works were also required to demonstrate uniqueness and applicability in the field of ageing which would enable viewers to:

  • Learn about design innovations being implemented internationally
  • Learn about innovative sustainable design techniques being used internationally
  • Learn how architects, owners and developers are collaborating to create environments that are beneficial to frail elderly
  • Learn about innovative design approaches which creatively address a variety of building code requirements

The submissions were displayed at the 2015 ACSA/IAHSA Joint Conference in Perth for over 800 attending international delegates to view. Designs were also presented and discussed at the concurrent session, “Ageing in Future Community – Endless Possibilities” hosted by ThomsonAdsett.
